Dr François PIERSON
Director OIA
A general practitioner based in Saint-Paul since 1990, Dr François Pierson co-founded Océan Indien Assistance (OIA) and has been its medical director since 1997. With over 30 years' experience, he combines private practice, health regulation and university teaching.
A key player in unscheduled care in the west of Réunion, it also supports future generations of doctors as a training supervisor. His leadership and expertise make OIA a regional benchmark in medical assistance.

Dr Phillipe BELLARD
Expertise & Advice
With over 30 years' experience in the field of medical assistance, Dr Bellard is a highly qualified doctor with a triple specialisation in maxillo-facial surgery, emergency medicine and general medicine. An expert in aerospace medicine, he has played a key role in the introduction and development of medical assistance on La Réunion, Madagascar and other islands in the region.
Today, Dr Bellard acts as a strategic advisor to OIA, where his expertise and global vision help to optimise the procedures and management of medical assistance missions.
Dr Bellard is the mainstay of Océan Indien Assistance, guaranteeing the safety and efficiency of medical repatriation operations thanks to his experience in the field and his in-depth technical know-how.

Dr. Lorenz CORMIER
Medical regulator, consultation at home
Dr Lorenz Cormier, a general practitioner who has been based at l'Éperon since 2023, combines solid experience in emergency medicine, traumatology and obstetrics. Trained on La Réunion, his well-established local network facilitates exchanges with the region's hospitals. He is also involved in regulating OIA. Accustomed to large-scale events such as the Grand Raid, he combines versatility and commitment in his practice. Dr Cormier offers comprehensive care, including ultrasound scans and technical procedures where necessary.

Dr. Pierrick GOUEL
Medical regulator, carrier
General practitioner, specialist in pre-hospital traumatology. A real ‘Swiss Army knife’ for remote care. With a wealth of experience in isolated environments, he has mastered the specific features and ‘codes’ needed to operate in countries with limited resources. He coordinates and monitors EVASANs, drawing on his in-depth expertise in traumatology and emergency medicine to effectively manage critical transfers.

Our strength
Based in La Réunion, in the heart of the Indian Ocean, OIA is strategically located near Roland Garros international airport. Our transport network can take patients from one end of the island to the other.
Our story
In 1990, Dr Philippe BELLARD and Dr François PIERSON founded the first medical assistance service in Réunion. With demand constantly rising, they transformed a small office into a technical centre with over 70 employees, to meet the profession's current standards and expectations.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
Our state-of-the-art medical equipment enables us to carry out complex medical procedures and provide a high level of care, even in the most critical emergency situations. In particular, this capability enables us to care for patients who have been intubated, sedated or require oxygen therapy. We are equipped to handle up to four medical cases simultaneously, including one intensive care unit.
